Says it all

Nothing funny or interesting or even thought-provoking with which to challenge you today. I’m just trying to stay focussed.

Here is a French TV program about health that did a long feature on a surgical means to deal with the congenital giant nevus in young children, and then on how one young woman dealt with her twenty-five operations and subsequent body scars. The relevant sequence is between 26:17 and 34:15. If you don’t like blood, skip the operation sequence; it’s awful to see (especially the tape on the baby’s eyes, for me), but that is what these children and their families live with.

For those of you just coming in, sorry about the comments; I don’t even get notified about attempts. Can *anyone* make comments? It’s been a while, but I thought it might be because I haven’t been exactly cheery lately.

Also, the *giant* nevus is ultra-rare; not at all to be expected, when you’re expecting! And it affects all people of all skin types, presenting the same danger. However, in the patients’ associations I have encountered (French and American), there is a dismaying under-representation of black people. Diagnosis is rather hard to come by to begin with, so if there is not high contrast or texture differentials, I bet there is not the same access to surgery. Even in a country where such interventions are reimbursed in large part for everyone, regardless of race or resources.

Hey there. Just testing to see if the comments work.

I believe all comments are working fine, but they must be logged in order to make comments (different than before).
